Sewage Rising? That Is an Emergency We Answer

Sewage surfacing at a floor waste is not a wait-till-Monday job. Call (02) 9072 0710 now.

Speak to a licensed plumber, not an answering machine. Whoever picks up can tell you what that pipe is doing.

Before we arrive, shut every tap and leave the washing machine alone. Whatever has surfaced, do not touch it, and keep children and pets out of that room.

Local knowledge

Why Randwick Drains Block, and What We Find

The suburb sits high, on a ridge about 76 metres up between the coast and Centennial Park. That shape decides where its drainage trouble shows up.

Water does not sit on a ridge. It leaves, fast, and it collects in the low gullies at the edges instead.

So the flooding story here is not a river breaking its banks. It is localised pooling in the gullies below the high ground, the sort of fall you can walk down into at Fred Hollows Reserve.

The soil does the rest. The ground here is sand over rock, the remnant banksia country you can still see at Randwick Environmental Park.

Sand moves. Rock does not. A clay drainage line laid across both is being pulled in two directions for decades, and the joints are where it gives.

That matters because a lot of this suburb is still on its original clay. The pre-1940 cottages and the grand old homes were plumbed in earthenware, and much of it is still down there working.

Clay handles water fine. It handles movement badly.

What we actually pull out of these lines: roots that found a joint gapped by a few millimetres, and silt. Fine sand washes off this soil into any cracked line, packs down hard, and narrows the pipe from the inside.

Neither one announces itself. Both turn a working drain into a blocked sewer over a wet fortnight, which is why a camera earns its keep here.

Signs It Is Time to Call a Drain Plumber

A drain rarely fails without warning you first. Find your symptom below, then act on the last column.

Symptom The likely cause Your next move
Sink or shower emptying slowly Soap and grease have narrowed the bore, not closed it Book drain cleaning while it is cheap
Toilet burping as the basin empties Something downstream is trapping air behind it Get vision on the line
Sewage smell indoors or at the gully Waste is sitting in the pipe instead of moving Ring us now
Puddle around the outside gully Your main line has stopped accepting flow Treat as a blocked sewer
Bowl level lifting then sinking by itself Pressure shifting behind an obstruction Quit flushing and call
Lawn patch that stays soggy in dry weather A broken pipe leaking below ground Book blocked drain repair

Any two together, and the fault is in the main line rather than the fixture. Put the plunger down at that point.

Why Randwick Keeps Choosing Us

This is unit country, and most of it is rented. A blocked drain here tends to involve a tenant, an owner and a strata manager before it ever involves a plumber.

We are used to that, and we keep our end of it simple.

One Figure, Agreed Up Front

We look, we quote, you say yes or no. Nothing gets added later because the job took longer than we thought.

Half an Hour, Not "Sometime Today"

A guaranteed 30-minute arrival, not a four-hour window you have to take a day off for.

Thirty-Five Years of It

35+ years combined experience on the tools, in a family business that has been running 11+ years. Whoever quotes your job is whoever does it.

Backed for Life

Lifetime labour warranty on every drain we clear. No questions asked.

Straight pricing

Pricing Without the Nasty Surprise

Nobody can honestly price a blocked drain down a phone line. Anyone who tries is guessing, and the guess never lands your way.

What we can do is name the things that move it. You approve a price in writing, on site, before a tool leaves the van.

  • Its distance from us. A metre past the boundary shaft is one job. Eight metres beneath a concrete driveway is another.
  • Its nature. Grease is an hour with a jetter. A root mass locked into an old clay joint is a longer morning.
  • What we have to get through. Ground-floor house with a clean-out is easy going. A shared line threaded under a block of flats is not.
  • Whether the pipe lived. Clearing is one price, relining a split section another, and the camera shows you why we ask.

Two discounts hold regardless. Book online, $50 comes off. Seniors take 10% off the labour.

How we work

How We Clear a Drain Properly

Every job follows the same order, whether it is a sluggish shower or sewage at the gully.

  1. 01

You Ring, a Plumber Picks Up

No receptionist, no message taken. Describe the symptom, hear what it probably is, and we set off.

  2. 02

    Eyes on the Pipe First

Nothing gets attacked until we have found it. Type, position, depth, tool required, all known before we start.

  3. 03

The Right Tool for That Fault

Jetting for grease and roots, because it cleans the wall rather than the middle. An eel where a jetter has no path.

  4. 04

    Proof, Then Choices

Back down the camera goes, and you watch it run clear yourself. Anything that needs attention comes with prices attached, not pressure.

Cafes, Kitchens and the Grease They Send Down

The eating strips here run hot. The Spot, where Perouse Road meets St Pauls Street, is a dense little precinct of kitchens sharing drainage with the flats and cottages around them.

Grease behaves unlike anything else in a drain. It goes down warm and liquid, cools, then sets on the pipe wall like candle wax.

Every service adds a layer. Hot water will not shift it, and a cable only tunnels through the centre.

That is a jetting job, not a cabling job. Kitchens and the homes sharing their line both need the pipe scoured, not just opened.

Strata Drains and Shared Lines

Home units did not arrive here until the 1960s, then they arrived all at once. Those walk-up brick blocks, plus newer infill apartments around the hospital and university precinct, put a lot of households on shared drainage.

A shared line changes the problem. A blockage in the common pipe hits several flats at once, though from inside one bathroom it looks private.

We deal with owners, tenants and strata managers all week, and the camera settles whose pipe it is before anyone argues about it.

In the Community, For the Community

Family-run, working streets we already know: the racecourse, the two hospitals, the shops strung along the ridge. A neighbourhood, not a list of addresses.

We put money and time behind Ronald McDonald House Charities Sydney, Beyond Blue, Wayside Chapel and Pink Ribbon Day. Local events too, whenever there is a spot for us.

Common questions

Blocked Drains Randwick FAQs

Six things people ask us on the phone most weeks.

Will the blockage just come back?

Only if someone treats the symptom. Punch a cable through a root mass and the roots stay put, so the line closes over again in a few months. We cut it back to bare pipe wall, then put the camera on whatever let it start.

Is there a drain plumber near Randwick open on weekends?

Yes, and Saturday costs what Tuesday costs. There is no weekend loading and no callback slot, because the phones are staffed every day of the year. Public holidays are no different.

What suburbs do you service around Randwick?

Coogee, Kensington, Clovelly, Kingsford and Maroubra sit on our regular run, plus the wider Randwick City Council area on identical terms. Being a few streets further out does not add a travel charge.

Do you charge a call-out fee in Randwick?

Never, and the quote costs nothing whether you go ahead or not. We inspect the drain, hand you the price, you decide from there. Booking online knocks $50 off it.

How do you clear a blocked drain?

The camera leads, so we are working on a known fault rather than a hunch. Jetting handles most grease and root blockages by scouring the wall clean. An eel covers what a jetter cannot reach, and the camera confirms the result.

Can you clear tree roots out of a drain?

Yes, and the old clay under the pre-war streets here gives us plenty of practice. Jetting shears the roots out and cleans the pipe wall behind them. Roots can only get in through a crack or a lifted joint though, so we will show you that entry point and what sealing it involves.
