Common questions

Money, Quotes and the $50 Off

Nobody should have to guess what a drain job will cost, so here's how the numbers actually work.

How do quotes work?

One of our plumbers looks at the job, over the phone for simple problems or in person for anything trickier, then gives you a fixed price. Say yes and that price doesn't move, no matter how long the job runs.

Is the quote really free?

Correct, there's nothing owing just to have someone come and look. Money only changes hands once you've said go ahead.

What does "$50 off when you book online" cover?

Skip the phone call and book through the site instead, and $50 drops straight off whatever we quote. It comes off the quoted figure on top of the free assessment and the $0 call-out you were getting anyway.

How does the 10% seniors discount work?

Flash a seniors card when you get in touch and 10% comes off before you sign off on anything. Nothing to fill in, nothing to claim back later.

Common questions

Whose Drain Is It, and Who Can Touch It

Drains raise a legal question most trades don't: where your responsibility ends and the network's begins.

Are you licensed and insured?

NSW Plumbing Licence #275278C, Master Plumber accreditation, and $20 million in public liability cover sit behind every job. Ask to see any of it and we'll show you.

Who is responsible for a blocked sewer, me or Sydney Water?

Sewage popping up out on the street, with the same trouble hitting the houses either side of you, points to a Sydney Water mains fault. Your side of the boundary shaft stays your responsibility, and that's the part we handle.

What is an overflow relief gully and why does it matter?

Picture a small dome-shaped grate near an outside wall. Its job is stopping sewage from pushing back into the house once a drain further along gets blocked. Bubbling or overflow there is worth calling about straight away.

Do wipes really block drains?

Every time, packaging claims aside. Toilet paper dissolves in water and wipes don't. They snag on rough spots inside older pipework and build into a blockage over weeks.

Common questions

Response Times and Booking

Speed matters once a drain's already causing trouble, so here's what to expect.

Do you work weekends and public holidays?

Saturday, Sunday, Christmas Day, doesn't matter. A plumber picks up the phone himself rather than a machine taking a message.

What counts as a drain emergency?

Water backing up around a toilet base, sewage coming up inside the house, or a stormwater grate overflowing mid-storm are the clear ones. Ring anyway if you're not certain and we'll help you work it out.

What happens after I call?

You'll get a plumber on the line, a handful of questions about what's going on, then someone dispatched to your door within 30 minutes. Nothing gets touched on-site until you've agreed to a number.

How fast can you get here?

Thirty minutes from your call to a van in the driveway, guaranteed, whether that's Randwick itself or one of the suburbs nearby.

Common questions

The Randwick Questions

Local answers, drawn from what actually turns up on the tools around here.

Why do Randwick's older drains keep blocking?

Plenty of the housing stock here still runs on the clay sewer lines it was built with before 1940, and those joints crack with age. Roots from the big street trees near The Spot and Avoca Street find their way through the cracks and cause the same blockage to return.

Do tree roots really get into pipes here?

Constantly, on the older heritage blocks especially. A root chasing moisture only needs a hairline gap in a clay joint to squeeze through and start growing.

Do you know Randwick's pipe stock?

We see it every week: original clay under the pre-1940 cottages near The Spot, shared stacks feeding the 1960s-70s walk-up blocks, and PVC in the newer builds close to the university. Each one gets handled differently.

Do you work on strata and apartment blocks?

Regularly, given how many units and walk-ups sit across Randwick. We're used to dealing directly with owners corporations and building managers when a shared line needs sorting.
